Why Was I Charged Twice?
Seeing what looks like two charges can feel worrying — but in many cases, it turns out to be something other than a true duplicate payment. Here's how to understand what may have happened and what to check first.
💳 Common Reasons You May See Two Charges
- Family Protection purchase: Many customers purchase both a regular Control+ plan and a Family Protection add-on. These appear as separate charges because they are separate services. Family Protection allows you to protect additional family members under the same account.
- Pending authorization or temporary bank hold: Sometimes banks temporarily show duplicate pending charges, authorization holds, or failed payment attempts. These often disappear automatically within a few business days if the payment was not completed successfully.
- Purchase through different platforms: You may have one direct Control+ subscription and another through the Apple App Store or Google Play. This can happen if setup was started more than once using different emails or payment methods.
- Multiple accounts or emails: Some customers accidentally create two accounts with different email addresses — or one account through Apple Private Relay and another with their personal email. This can sometimes look like duplicate billing even though each subscription is attached to a different account.
🔍 How to Check if You Were Actually Charged Twice
1. Check your bank statement carefully
Look for whether both charges are fully completed, or if one still shows as Pending or Processing. Pending charges are not always completed payments and may disappear on their own.
2. Check your subscription details in the app
- Open the Control+ app and go to the Profile tab.
- Tap Subscription.
There you can review your active plans, renewal dates, and Family Protection status.
3. Check Apple or Google subscriptions
If you subscribed through Apple:
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Tap your Apple ID.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Look for multiple Control+ subscriptions.
If you subscribed through Google Play:
- Open the Google Play Store.
- Tap your profile icon.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
- Look for multiple Control+ subscriptions.
