I’m still getting a lot of spam messages. Isn’t this app suppose to block them?
We understand how frustrating spam messages can be. While Control+ works hard to reduce your exposure over time, it's important to know how our protection works and what you can do right now to stay safer.
What Control+ Does to Protect You
Control+ doesn't directly block emails — to keep your inbox private and under your control — but we work behind the scenes to reduce spam at the source:
- 🗑️ Data Broker Removal — removing your personal information from broker databases so spammers can't easily buy your details.
- 🛡️ Dark Web Monitoring — alerting you if your email appears in known data breaches.
- ✉️ SMS Protection — automatically filtering suspicious and fraudulent text messages (iOS only).
- 📞 Call Protection — blocking spam and fraudulent calls before they reach you.
What You Can Do Right Now
Even with protection in place, some spam may still get through. Here's how to stay safe:
- 🚫 Don't click suspicious links or open attachments, even if the message looks convincing.
- 📧 Mark emails as spam in your email app — this helps train your email provider's filters.
- 🔒 Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) — even if someone gets your password, they won't be able to log in without the second step.
- 🔑 Use strong, unique passwords — avoid reusing passwords across sites. A password manager can help.
- 📱 Keep your apps and device updated — many scams exploit outdated software.
- 👀 Check sender details carefully — scammers often use similar-looking names. Always check the actual email address, not just the display name.
- 🗑️ When in doubt, delete — if something feels off, it's safer to delete than risk opening it.
When Will the Spam Reduce?
If your data broker scan is still in progress, you may notice a gradual reduction in spam over time. The longer you're protected, the less information spammers can find and use to target you.
💡 Spam is a common internet problem, but with Control+ removing your personal info and your own safe habits in place, your inbox should become noticeably safer over the coming weeks.
