I’m still getting a lot of spam calls

Receiving some spam calls even after activating Call Protection is completely normal, especially in the first few weeks. Here's why — and what you can do about it.

Why Spam Calls Still Get Through

  • Spammers constantly change numbers: No call-blocking solution is perfect because spammers frequently rotate the numbers they call from. Our system relies on databases and patterns that are constantly updated, but some calls may still get through as spammers adapt their methods.
  • Data broker removals take time: When you first start using Control+, your data broker removal process is still in progress. Your phone number may still be circulating among data brokers — often as a result of breaches or data sharing that occurred before you joined Control+. It can take a few weeks before you notice a significant reduction as your personal information is gradually removed from broker databases.
  • New numbers appear daily: Spam operations are large-scale and automated. Even as we block known numbers, new ones are created and used constantly. This is an industry-wide challenge that affects all call-blocking tools.
  • Your number may already be widely distributed: Once a phone number ends up in spam databases, it tends to be shared across multiple sources. Removing it from all of them takes time and happens gradually throughout your subscription.

What You Can Do

  • Share the numbers with us: If you receive a spam call, send us the number. Your reports directly help us update our databases and improve protection for you and all our users. The more we know, the better our filters become.
  • Add trusted numbers to your Allowlist: If a legitimate call was blocked, we'd like to look into that. You can add trusted numbers to your Unblocked list in the Call Protection section of the app to make sure important calls always get through. See: How to Unblock a Number.
  • Keep your profile up to date: Make sure your email addresses and phone numbers are current in the app. This ensures our scans and removal requests are as accurate and effective as possible.
  • Keep Call Protection active: It may be tempting to turn it off out of frustration, but doing so would expose you to the full volume of spam calls, phishing attempts, and fraudulent calls. The protection is working — some spam getting through doesn't mean it isn't filtering a significant portion already.

When Will It Get Better?

Many users see a noticeable reduction in spam calls over time as:

  • More data broker removals are completed.
  • Our system learns and updates its patterns.
  • Your personal information becomes harder for spammers to find and buy.
💡 If you're still receiving a high volume of spam calls after several weeks, please reach out to our support team. We take every report seriously and will look into your specific situation closely.
