Articles on: How to use the app

How often does Control+ scan for new exposures?

Control+ is designed to provide continuous, ongoing protection — not just a one-time scan. Here's how our scanning works across each feature.

🛡️ Identity Protection & Dark Web Monitoring

Our system continuously monitors dark web databases and known breach sources for any new exposures linked to your email addresses and phone number. This happens automatically in the background throughout your subscription — you don't need to manually trigger any scans.

If a new exposure is detected, you'll receive an alert straight away so you can take action quickly.

🗑️ Data Broker Removal

Data broker scanning is an ongoing process that runs throughout your entire subscription:

  • Initial scan: Begins as soon as you complete your profile and typically takes up to 5 days to complete.
  • Continuous monitoring: After the initial scan, we keep monitoring broker databases for new appearances of your information and submit fresh removal requests as needed.
  • New brokers: We regularly add new data brokers to our system, which means your coverage improves over time.
This is why data broker removal is a subscription service rather than a one-time fix — your data can reappear, and we need to keep working to remove it.

📞 Call Protection & ✉️ SMS Protection

These features work in real time — every call and every message is checked against our databases the moment it arrives. Our spam databases are constantly updated as new patterns and numbers are identified.

🔄 Does It Run Even When I'm Not Using the App?

Yes. Control+ is designed to run quietly in the background at all times, so your protection is always active even when the app is not open. For best results, make sure Control+ is allowed to run in the background in your device settings.

💡 Tip: The more complete your profile, the more accurately we can scan and monitor on your behalf. Make sure your email addresses, phone number, and address are all up to date under Profile → Account.
