# What Is Call Screening? (How It Works)

Call Screening is a Control+ feature for iPhone users in the US that stops unknown callers from interrupting you — without making you unreachable to people who actually need to reach you.

### 📞 How it works

* **Someone in your contacts calls** → your phone rings normally. Screening never applies to saved contacts.
* **An unknown number calls** → your phone stays silent, and the call is forwarded to your Control+ secretary.
* Our AI secretary answers, lets the caller know the call may be screened and recorded, then asks who's calling and why. The answer is recorded.
* Control+ reads the transcript and decides: if it matters, you get a **push notification** right away with what they said, plus quick actions — Call back, Add to contacts, Block this number. If it's spam or not important, nothing happens: no ring, no notification, no interruption.

### 🔎 The 4 situations you'll run into

* **1. Someone in your contacts** — the phone rings normally. Nothing changes for people you already know.
* **2. A known scam number** — blocked immediately by Control+'s existing scam databases, before screening even starts.
* **3. An unknown but legitimate caller** (a dentist, recruiter, delivery driver, new business contact) — screened, then surfaced with a notification if it's worth your attention.
* **4. An unknown scam or irrelevant caller** — handled entirely in the background. The caller hangs up or leaves nothing meaningful; you're never interrupted.

### 🤖 What about automated callers?

Automated calls (like an appointment reminder) are treated the same as human calls — Control+ reads what was actually said, not just whether a human picked up. So a legitimate automated caller ("Your prescription is ready for pickup") is still recognized as important and can trigger a notification.
*Tip: if you rely on a specific automated number (pharmacy, bank, school), save it as a contact so it always rings through and skips screening entirely.*
Every screened call — whether or not it triggered a notification — stays visible in your Screened Calls log, so nothing is ever truly lost, only quieted.
